Andy Murray Ends His Men’s Doubles Adventure at Wimbledon Championships 2019

The doubles team of Andy Murray and Pierre-Hugues Herbert have conceded a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 defeat against the sixth-seeded team of Nikola Mektic and Franko Skugor. With this, Murray’s men’s doubles tenure at Wimbledon Championships 2019 has been concluded.

However he will be seen in action later today where he will be sharing the court with the 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams in the mixed doubles event and it will be their first match together at Wimbledon.

Andy Murray and Pierre-Hugues Herbert were victorious in the opening round. It was the first match for the Brit in Wimbledon after his hiatus from tennis due to his hip issues. His comeback was accompanied with “come on Andy” cheers from all the corners of the Court Number one, on top of that, the ‘Murray Mound’ was thronged by his countrymen. Besides the AELTC’s boisterous mob, three million viewers watched his comeback match.

In his opening match, Murray and Herbert recovered from a set down trail and destroyed the duo, Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0. “I was a little bit nervous at the start but I like to be,” said Andy Murray. “I like feeling the pressure because it shows that you care. And that match will do us a lot of good.”

Tonight the British crowd will be packing for, Murray and Williams’ action at The All England Club. The new pair of former Wimbledon champions will take on Alexa Guarachi and Andreas Mies in the opening round of the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon Championships 2019.

Serena Williams last won her mixed doubles Wimbledon crown in 1998 and with her sister Venus Williams, she has amassed six Wimbledon crowns in the doubles meadow. And, Andy Murray last played his mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2006 and at that time the Brit made it to the second round.
