The toll that people like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer take on their bodies for the sake of creating the magic for us on the court is just unimaginable. The ATP Tour is one of the most excruciating sports projects with big tournaments lined up every week.

Of course, players miss out on many luxuries that we have. They stay away from their families and don’t talk to their loved ones for weeks. The toll is exacerbated for players who are at the top of their games.

This is because they usually have more points to defend because of consistently good performances. This compels them to take part in more and more tournaments to maintain or improve their ranking. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray went live on Instagram where the British star talked about these issues.

What did Andy Murray say about Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal?

Andy Murray was very straightforward with what he felt about the nature of the tour. He said that players don’t even get the time to celebrate their victories because a tournament is lined up just in a few days again and they have to be ready.

“Because of the way our sport is, the thing that makes it hard is that let’s say you win the tournament in Canada in the Masters season on Sunday. You don’t have time in many ways to enjoy because immediately your mind is already straight on to the following week. I don’t know if you go out partying that night and get hammered drunk. You know you’re competing on Tuesday, Wednesday the following week and Cincinnati, it’s another country, another tournament.”

“You know I think, because of this the guys at the top of their game, Novak and Rafa, I don’t think people always appreciate how difficult it is to go like that from a Sunday final, travelling to another country, new conditions everything. And you’re straight into, you know there’s a lot of pressure as well on the guys at the top of their game to keep winning all the time. And so it’s difficult and I think that’s one of the reasons why maybe you don’t always enjoy the wins as much as you would like because you don’t have the opportunity. You know there’s not a week in between. Sometimes, you’re going straight onto the next tournament.”

Andy Murray has hit the nail on its head. However, the quarantine provides a much-needed break. The analysis going on right now indicates that players might have to face an even tougher schedule upon their return now.
