Andy Murray Swept Aside by Richard Gasquet in His First Singles Match Since Australian Open 2019

The Cincinnati Masters event comprised of the ‘Big Four’ tennis player Andy Murray in their singles draw. Murray remarked his long-awaited singles return to the ATP circuit by playing a match against Richard Gasquet and the Brit conceded a 4-6, 4-6 defeat in his first singles match after seven months.

Along with some Scottish support in the house, Nick Kyrgios and Lopez were rooting for Andy. In the doubles domain of Western & Southern Open 2019, Murray will be in tandem with Feliciano Lopez.

Andy Murray lost his opening service game. Murray’s command over his first serves was poor and his foot speed seemed deteriorated than before. Gasquet flew to Cincinnati after having a decent run in Montreal and played competitive tennis last week. 

The Scotsman faced a few break points in the first set and he was successful in converting one of them and bounced back from the breakdown trail. However, Gasquet went on the pull off the set 6-4.

Despite the Brit coming up with some prime-level tennis, the early break dilemma against emerged for Andy Murray. At 2-1 in the second set, Murray hit his first winner of the match which was a running forehand cross-court pass. Duece games were played on Gasquet’s serve, but Murray failed to break his service game.

Thereafter, Andy Murray could play a safe game on his serves but couldn’t outdo the service games of the Frenchman and consequently dealt a round one defeat in Cincinnati. It was his first match since his hip surgery in January and up next, he has a doubles match coming up at Ohio Masters.

Most likely, Andy Murray will be seen at the US Open 2019, and the New York major would remark a reunion of ‘Big Four’ of tennis.
