Andy Murray Targeting Top 300 Spot After Victory Over Matteo Berrettini at China Open 2019

After eliminating World Number 13,  Matteo Berrettini in China Open 2019 the Brit, Andy Murray climbs 137 spots up on the ATP Rankings table and he reaches the World Number 366 position. He will be facing his compatriot, Cameron Norrie in the second round of the Beijing tournament and if he defeats his countryman, Murray will back inside the top 300 ATP Rankings.

In the post-match press conference, Andy Murray was cheerful. The former World Number one was interrogated about his hip conditions, “no pain,” the Briton smirked and that reflected the could nine moment of Murray.

It was an arduous task to outdo the US Open 2019 semifinalist, Matteo Berrettini. Murray took about  51 minutes to close out the set in the tiebreaker. “It was tough, obviously I haven’t played many matches. At the end there I was just trying to fight, play as offensively as possible,” Murray said.

By curtailing his unforced errors, staying in the point and compelling his opponent to make mistakes during the crucial points, aided Andy Murray to seal a spot in the next round in China. “It cost me on a few points, helped me out a little bit at the end and I got over the line with a good passing shot at the end,” Murray added.

In the first set, the Briton won around 80 percent of his service points and aced five serves. “I think in the first set I served better than him but in the second set, I don’t think there was any difference really. We played some tight points up at the net at the end and thankfully I came out on top on one or two points more,” said Murray.

The Brit, Andy Murray eliminated the World Number 13,  Matteo Berrettini 7-6, 7-6 in the opening round of China Open 2019. In the all-British round of 16 encounter in Beijing, he will take on the unseeded player, Cameron Norrie.
