The tennis followers were trembled upon hearing the retirement news of one of the Big Fours, Andy Murray from tennis. The Briton announced his retirement from tennis on Friday due to his prolonged hip injury and on Monday he played his last match in Melbourne Park. The three-time Grand Slam champion tussle for four long hours on the court and conceded a 6-4 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 defeat to the Spaniard, Bautista Agut.

The unparalleled Brit, Murray, will be honoured with a statue at the All England Club in the SW19 district of London. His late compatriot, Fred Perry’s bronze statue was unveiled at Wimbledon in the year 1984 which remarked the 50th Anniversary of his first singles championship at Wimbledon. Also, in the same year, Perry was declared as the only tennis player to be listed in a survey of 2,000 Britons to find the “Best of the Best” British sportsmen of the 20th century. The Englander, Perry had bagged eight Grand Slam titles in his career which includes three Wimbledon titles and at the age of 26, he captured his Career Slam in Paris.

The Chief Executive Officer at Wimbledon, Richard Lewis shared his thoughts on Murray. “We are very fond of him,” he shared. “We always felt that when Andy retired, that would be the appropriate time too recognise his extraordinary career. I am sure something like [a statue] will be done, but meanwhile down at the club, he is seen as a highly-respected person both on and off the court.” The other British national to have a sculpture at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club is Sarah Virginia Wade who has won three Grand Slam titles in the Open Era of tennis.

The British people hope to see Murray being felicitated in the same manner as his fellow compatriots and beyond the shadows of doubt, the Scotsman had a sparkling career on the ATP circuit. Apart from winning his two Wimbledon titles at the southwest venue of London, he also secured one of his Olympic gold medals in the same venue by defeating Federer in the year 2012.
