Deontay Wilder is set to face off against Andy Ruiz Jr. in a highly anticipated bout. However, Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, seems to believe that Ruiz will not pose much of a challenge to Wilder. This statement comes weeks after WBC mandated Andy Ruiz and Deontay Wilder to fight to determine the next opponent for Tyson Fury, for the WBC heavyweight belt.

Wilder has faced Tyson Fury thrice in the past. Wilder lost two of the fights, while the other, was declared a draw. He is coming off a victory against Robert Helenius. Meanwhile, Ruiz has faced Anthony Joshua twice, winning their first meeting. ‘The Destroyer’ is coming off two wins against Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz.

Scott, who has worked with Wilder for many years, recently stated in an interview with Casino en Ligne that Ruiz poses “absolutely no threat” to Wilder. He explained that Wilder is a highly disciplined boxer, and that Ruiz lacks the necessary skills and experience to compete with him. Tyson Fury’s comments on Wilder vs Ruiz didn’t seem to be different than Scott’s.

This assessment of Ruiz is not entirely unfounded. While Ruiz is a talented boxer, he has had some inconsistencies in his career. His loss to Anthony Joshua in 2019 raised questions about his ability to face top-level competition.

On the other hand, Wilder has been on an impressive streak, with a record of 42 wins and 2 losses. He has also been the WBC heavyweight champion from 2015 to 2020 and has defended his title several times.

On the other hand, Ruiz too is on a winning streak lately. He has won his last two fights and is looking to make a comeback into the title picture. He has certainly proved himself as a powerful puncher in the ring.

It’s also worth noting that Ruiz is a former unified heavyweight champion. He has won the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles in 2019 when he defeated Anthony Joshua. He may not have the same record as Wilder, but he’s certainly a formidable opponent who cannot be underestimated.
