Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed the absence of Angel di Maria from the pre-season tour.
Van Gaal said “he doesn’t know” why Di Maria has not joined the team in the ongoing pre-season tournament in United States. Van Gaal also confirmed that Marcos Rojo has missed the flight – but due to some passport issues.
French paper L’Equipe has reported that the United have agreed a £46.5m deal with Paris Saint Germain for the Argentine, although the fee is still a subject of debate.
“He was not on the plane,” said Van Gaal after the 3-1 friendly win over Barcelona in Santa Clara, California.
“Marcos Rojo was also not on the plane. He has had a passport issue – for Angel Di Maria, I don’t know why. I cannot say anything.”
Van Gaal earlier stated that the 27-year-old will join United on Friday.
Di Maria, who has been linked with PSG throughout the summer arrived at Old Trafford last season with a record British fee of £59.7m.
PSG manager Laurent Blanc has also expressed that the French Champions are hopeful to join the former Madrid man.
As a matter of fact, United will play PSG in their next match, and the move can be finalized during the meeting of the European Giants.
