France legend Zinedine Zidane claims that Manchester United winger Angel di Maria will be a perfect fit in the Paris Saint-Germain squad. Zidane also said that the Argentina international will improve the French club’s chances in the Champions League.

PSG boss Laurent Blanc earlier stated that they are very close in landing Di Maria in the French capital, after the mercurial winger failed to deliver the goods at Old Trafford last season.

Manchester United signed Di Maria from Real Madrid last season for £59.7 million, after he helped them to an unprecedented tenth Champions League title, i.e. La Decima. Di Maria led the assists charts in La Liga in the 2013-14 season, and was therefore on the wish list of many top clubs. But since his arrival in Manchester, Di Maria has failed to live up to the expectations, and there has been a lot of speculation surrounding his future at the club. PSG have been interested in the 27-year-old winger for the past couple of years, and according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, they have reached an agreement with United to sign Di Maria.

Former France international Zinedine Zidane has welcomed the arrival of Di Maria at PSG, stating that he might be the man to fulfil the club’s Champions League ambitions.

“He’s the kind of player that can take you to the next stage. That’s what they need to go further in the Champions League,” Zidane told BFM TV in an interview. “Angel Di Maria can contribute his energy, the difference he makes when he accelerates, he has the quality to do something. I think that it will happen in the coming days.”

Zidane is currently managing Real Madrid Castilla, an integral part of the Real Madrid youth academy, and was the assistant manager at Real Madrid under Ancelotti in 2013-14. In his time as assistant manager, Zidane trained Di Maria and developed a good relationship with the Argentine, before Di Maria was surprisingly sold to Manchester United.
