Angelique Kerber Packs Her Bags From Dubai

The German tennis ace, Angelique Kerber turned out to be the next big upset after the World Number one, Naomi Osaka was knocked out from the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships. Kerber was shattered by the unseeded tennis player, Hsieh Su-Wei in the round-of-16 of the Middle-East tournament. The Taiwanese professional tennis player awarded a third set bagel to the three-time Grand Slam champion, Angelique Kerber. The World number 31, Hsieh defeated the German, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 and reserved her quarterfinal berth at the Dubai WTA event.

The fifth seed, Angelique Kerber played a topsy-turvy second round match against Dalila Jakupovic, she battled from a 1-5 down scoreline in the opening set and progressed to take a  straight-set victory against Jakupovic. “I really don’t know what to expect, I never played against [Jakupovic],” the World Number 7, Kerber mentioned after her yesterday’s match win. “For me, it was really tough to find my rhythm, but also find out the way she is playing.”

The 33-year-old, Hsieh recorded her first win against the former World Number one, Kerber, previously she lost in Madrid and at the Australian Open in 2013 and 2018 respectively. Also, she achieved her second victory against the top ten WTA athletes since dazing the World Number one, Simona Halep at SW19, last year.

The World Number two tennis player, Simona Halep has taken out the Ukrainian, Lesia Tsurenko and the Canadian, Eugenie Bouchard in her first two matches in Dubai and Halep is now through to the last eight round in Dubai. The Czech tennis player, Petra Kvitova has been wrestling to win the matches in Dubai. She dropped her opening set in her first match against her compatriot, Katerina Siniakova and in the second one against the American Jennifer Brady, Kvitova lost the second set baguette and later won 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 in 132 minutes. Kristina Mladenovic who stunned the top-seed, Osaka has surrendered to the Spaniard, Carla Suarez Navarro in the pre-quarters.
