Villagers are the most adorable part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You can currently allow up to 10 villagers to be your island’s residents. Furthermore, each villager has a unique personality, which defines them and helps distinguish them from other villagers. Most players like to collect maximum villagers of a personality they are very fond of.

More crossover characters coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons
In March 2021, players received a big update introducing all the Sanrio villagers and their outfits from New Leaf. This update was very much appreciated by the community, as they were able to collect some of their favorite Sanrio villagers. Not to mention, it was a pretty big collaboration back at the time.

However, this is not the only big Animal Crossing collaboration Nintendo has ever done. There were a lot of crossover characters introduced in New Leaf with the Welcome Amiibo update. Nintendo introduced these characters with the crossover between Legend of the Zelda, Splatoon, and even Monster Hunter. All these characters have high odds of returning to New Horizons.

Some players discovered last year, on a list of all the villagers’ mottos that you see on the villagers’ photograph, some of them were missing. This gave a hint that Nintendo might be planning on releasing more villagers and because of that, these mottos are missing as they are currently not part of the game.

Therefore, the possibility that these future villagers could be crossover characters is very high. Naturally, some players may think that these are just false rumors; however, nobody ever thought that Nintendo will release Sanrio villagers, but it did.
