This is essentially what the devs of the game spoke about at Japan’s Computer Entertainment Developers Conference. 4Gamer is a Japanese site that captured the interview, which was later translated by VGC.

The interview saw the Director of the game Aya Kyogoku talking about the success of the game and shared intricate details into what went behind developing the masterpiece.

Series Head Hisashi Nogami has been collecting data on the demographic structure. His study shows that the players are in the age group 20-30. And to top it all, gender is split almost equally.

He said, “However, looking at the gender and age data of Animal Crossing users, it is clear that the ratio of males and females is half and there are many users in their 20s and 30s.”
This points to the universal appeal of the title. The five-month-old title has managed to beak the stereotype that it came with. He said, “What would the public imagine if they were asked what kind of game Animal Crossing is?
“I think there is probably an image of a game where you can live leisurely with cute animals’ and ‘a game for young girls’.”

This essentially points to the fact that age and gender haven’t stopped Animal Crossing to reach the summit. Everyone has managed to find solace in a title that has remained unique in its own ways.
