After a March release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become an integral part of the online gaming community. The game has gained immense popularity during the pandemic, providing millions with a virtual outlet to simulate social activities. Players get to roam around decorating their islands while interacting with friends visiting them. To sustain the relaxing experience and fun, Nintendo timely pumps fresh content into the game.

The summer month of June has offered plenty of in-game activities to indulge in. With the month approaching its end, the Wedding Season will conclude soon, but not before players partake in a special Bug-Off event. Then, July will introduce more content into the game in the form of a summer update.

Nintendo recently launched a trailer for the first wave of a free summer update. The update hits the Animal Crossing: New Horizons servers on July 3. It is exciting news for fans as new mechanics, a new character, and more are coming to their favorite game.

What’s coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons with July summer update?

Fishing is already a key aspect of the game, but players will soon have more to do than running around with fishing rods near the shores. The oceans are opening up with July’s summer update. Players get to put on a wet suit and plunge off cliffs to swim and dive into the sea. While doing so, they can also collect new sea critters like sea stars, sea anemones, spotted garden eel, and scallops. As usual, these creatures can then be donated to Blathers for the museum.

Moreover, while swimming in the ocean, one might meet the new character, Pascal, who is a red otter. Pascal has appeared in the Animal Crossing series before, and he will offer New Horizons players with brand new mermaid-themed DIY recipes to craft in exchange for scallops.

Other than that, players have a new encounter with Gulliver. The trailer didn’t showcase what the new encounter will be, but this time, the sleepy seagull will wash up on shores in a pirate outfit.

That’s not all, though. Nintendo has promised a second wave of summer update in the near future. What the second update has in store is unknown at the moment, but the company plans to release it in early August. Something that we know for sure is Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have a lot of activities to participate in throughout the summer.
