“Anything Can Happen Zverev Showed It”- Daniil Medvedev on ATP World Tour Finals

Russian tennis sensation Daniil Medvedev suffered a shock defeat at the hands of unseeded Jeremy Chardy in his opening match at the Rolex Paris Masters 2019 on Tuesday.

Daniil Medvedev’s streak of reaching the finals in the last six tournaments on the ATP Tour was ended with this defeat. He was also on a nine-match winning streak with claiming 19 consecutive sets.

However, the 23-year-old is confident about his debut at ATP Finals next month as he sites an example of his fellow mate Alexander Zverev and explained that the German proved at the ATP Finals last year that anything can happen.

“I wasn’t thinking at all about the streak while on the court,” he said. “I was just afraid of losing. I hate to lose. But I also know what I can do when I play. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Even though I lost, I can take it as an experience, “ Medvedev said in the post-match press conference.

The US Open runner-up further explicated that he does not like to lose but he will try to learn from this defeat and get experience from it as he gets some more time to prepare for the Nitto ATP Finals 2019.

He said: “Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Even though I lost, I can take it as an experience. Now I have more time to prepare for the Tour Finals. It really is a dream for me to be going there.”

Daniil Medvedev will next head to London for his maiden appearance at the final event of the ATP Tour next month, where he is aiming to emulate last year’s champion and fellow next-generation star Alexander Zverev.

“It’s a tournament where anything can happen, Zverev showed that there last year. It’s going to be a good experience,” the World No.4 concluded.
