Gameplay in Apex’s ranked leagues provides a complete competitive experience. This is why the player base grinds for hundreds of hours, climbing the ranked tiers to achieve an Apex Predator’s status. Therefore, when numerous players dropped rank and got kicked because of a matchmaking bug, they were left exasperated.

Weird matchmaking bug kicks Apex Legends players out of the game, costing them ranked points

A video posted on Reddit by u/DropTopMox shed light on their encounter with the unexpected glitch. The footage shows the ranked player solo queuing into a Diamond 3 lobby and receiving a random Gold tier teammate. However, the game booted him because his teammate did not fulfill the Platinum rank criteria.

The game registered it as an abandoned match, resulting in 96 points being deducted from his ranked progress. To make things worse, he also received a 10-minute matchmaking cooldown as a penalty.

This bug seemed to stem from an exploit in ranked play when lobbies have greater ranked tier disparity than allowed. Seeing players’ ranked progression being impacted unfairly, the devs acted promptly in resolving the bug and prevented it from becoming a widespread issue.

The devs have issued a fix and affected players get 1 Apex Pack each

The director of community and communications addressed the issue on Twitter saying, “There was a bug involving party limitations that caused exactly 3,614 players to lose some RP.”

“We’ve issued a quick fix for the bug. And since we don’t have the records to restore the lost RP, we’re going to grant 1 Apex Pack to the affected players.”

Respawn has implemented a quick fix for the troublesome bug. Unfortunately, the devs don’t have the resources to recover the ranked points lost by the players. Therefore, they compensated each of the affected individuals by granting them 1 Apex Pack.

Some players pointed out that a single Apex pack probably is a bit less in terms of compensation for rank loss, which will take some time to regain. Nevertheless, it’s good to see the glitch being fixed and affected parties receiving something for their troubles. The swift action from Respawn regarding such an important issue highlights their concern for the Apex Legends community.
