The Apex Legends fans had long requested cross-platform play since the game’s launch. They finally got access to cross-play functionality in a Season 6 update, enabling them to play with friends across different platforms. While Apex Legends is now a cross-play enabled game, it does not support another important feature that comes along with the tag.

Other popular BR games that support cross-play, like Fortnite and Warzone, also have cross-progression enabled. This feature carries over a player’s progression across all platforms linked to the same game account, providing a unified experience. Users can play on a different platform than they originally started on and transfer their experience level, skins, stats, etc., over to the other platform instead of making a new account to start from scratch.

Technically, Apex Legends supports cross-progression on PC between Origin and Steam accounts, following its launch on the latter digital storefront. But the functionality isn’t shared between all platforms. However, there is some good news for Apex players who want the feature implemented into the battle royale on a full scale.

Respawn dev Jason McCord replied to a player on Twitter, who asked about the possibility of cross-progression being added.

The design director said, “We hear you and know that people want it. I want it too. We can’t talk about anything that hasn’t been announced though, sorry.

Although it isn’t much information, it’s good to know that the devs want the feature added. However, they cannot share further details about anything that hasn’t been officially announced. Meanwhile, another Respawn dev had previously spoken about cross-progression, indicating that the studio is working on implementing the feature in Apex Legends.

“It’s a complex problem, especially post-launch when people have multiple accounts already made on different platforms. But we have some really smart people thinking about it as we speak. Hopefully, sometime in the future, we can support it, but it’s still early development.

As mentioned by the dev, there are some complex issues in developing cross-progression, especially post-launch, when players may already have multiple accounts across different platforms to merge and use. This could be why it is taking a while to implement. But the good news is that Respawn has people working on providing players access to the much-awaited feature.

The devs have expressed their desire to add cross-progression, even though they cannot provide further details until an official announcement. This news bodes well for players who look forward to switching their current platform.

Moreover, Apex Legends will expand to other platforms in the future, including the game’s Nintendo Switch launch in 2021. Therefore, should Respawn bring cross-progression into the game, it will become an important and welcome feature. At this moment, it’s unclear how close the developers are to delivering the feature. For now, we have to wait and see when that official announcement comes.
