With each passing day, the hype surrounding the next season of Apex Legends is surging. Apart from teasers and speculation, not much information is available yet about the potential features of Season 7, including a new map and the next legend. However, with just over a week left for the new season to kick-off, that is about to change.

Yesterday Apex Legends announced the next episode of its Stories from the Outlands series. Titled ‘Promise’, the latest episode is scheduled to premiere today, October 26, at 8 am PT on YouTube.

For the unaware, Stories from the Outlands are Apex’s series of animated short films, emphasizing the legends’ backstories. Respawn builds on the battle royale’s pertaining lore through these trademark animated shorts, which everyone looks forward to in the buildup to a new season.

In the buildup to Season 4, the lore video had showcased Revenant killing Forge, while the next episode showed Loba learning to take revenge. Most recently, we saw Rampart joining the Apex Games through Kuben Blisk in Season 6’s animated cinematic. Therefore, today’s Stories from the Outlands episode could shed some light on the Season 7 legend’s backstory.

Unless Respawn does what they did with Forge, Horizon is widely anticipated as the next legend to arrive in Apex. Players saw Horizon appear first in an official teaser in the Firing Range. Being a scientist, she wanted to gather data from players by giving them a slew of in-game challenges.

It included accessing gravity lifts spread across World’s Edge and Kings Canyon using key cards. After completing the challenges, she introduces herself as Dr. Mary Somers, aka Horizon, in another video at the Firing Range.

The cover art for the upcoming episode features a tiny space shuttle traversing a gargantuan black hole. Based on a recent teaser video log, Horizon appears stranded in space, probably because of her spacecraft’s malfunction. Meanwhile, the episode’s title “Promise” could refer to the “him,” Horizon mentions in the same video teaser. It could imply the scientist made a promise to a close acquaintance to come back home.

Meanwhile, the new animated short could also shed light on the glaring connection between Horizon and Ash. In another video log, Dr. Somers says, “Just a wee bit of betrayal before breakfast, ay dearie?”

Way back, at the end of the Season 5 quest, when players had to assemble Ash’s head and body, the simulacrum uttered random messages, including the exact quote Horizon makes in the teaser.

Today’s Stories from the Outlands episode could share valuable insight into Dr. Mary Somers’ backstory. For now, everyone is eagerly waiting to tune into Apex Legends’ YouTube today to watch the battle royale’s lore unfold.
