The Cyberpunk 2077 launch was celebrated by fans all over the world, but it wasn’t necessarily good for CDPR. The early media reviews suggested the game was a buggy mess, and fans found that to be true. Additionally, the game’s performance on PS4 and Xbox One was highly underwhelming compared to PC and the latest PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. As a result, the developers have announced that they are going to be fixing this mess soon.

In an announcement on Twitter, CD Projekt apologized to the fans for the game’s performance on the previous-gen consoles.

“First of all, we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase.

“We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”

Considering the damage is already done, CDPR may not be able to salvage much here. However, it is good that the developers at least understand that it was a miss on their end and realize they could’ve done better.

Additionally, they also announced that a patch is also coming within the next 7-days. In addition to this, there are also two ‘large’ patches scheduled for January and February 2021, respectively. These will look to fix all the bugs and issues the game is experiencing currently. CDPR also claims that these patches will fix the game’s experience on the last-gen consoles substantially.

Lastly, the developers also announced that players can opt-in for a refund if they are not satisfied with their purchase. The important thing to note here is that only console players can claim this refund and from the announcement, it seems it may only be for PS4 and Xbox One users. More details regarding the same will hopefully be provided soon.

The announcement reads, “Finally, we would always like everyone who buys our games to be satisfied with their purchase. We would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don’t want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy.

“For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PSN or Xbox respectively. For boxed versions, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. Should this not be possible, please contact us at helpmerefund(@cdprojektred.com and we will do our best to help you.”

This may seem like an over-the-top move by CDPR, but it shows that they really care about the game’s experience. There were already reports that PS4 users could get refunds on their CP 2077 copies, and this confirms it.

CP 2077 was probably the most hyped game of all time; however, it barely managed to live up to its hype. CDPR will really have to wow the fans with some great DLC expansions, which will help them salvage something out of their most ambitious project ever.
