Back in September, Tennessee running back Jeremy Banks was arrested by the police. Now, the cops have released camera footage where the player was heard saying, “Where I’m from, we shoot at cops.”

The 19-year-old running back was arrested for an outstanding warrant in his name. As it turned out, he was initially pulled over for an illegal U-turn on Sept. 15. The incident took place mere hours after his team’s win over UT-Chattanooga. In all honesty, such behaviour would affect a potential move to the NFL.

During the arrest, Banks told the arresting officers that he plays for the Volunteers team. He also asked them several times to to call his head coach, Jeremy Pruitt.

Once on the phone, Pruitt revealed that he knew of Banks’ previous traffic ticket. However, he was unaware of an arrest warrant out for Banks for failing to appear in court.

Banks only made the situation worse when he began to insult the cops. He said some things along the lines of, “I don’t like the police, bro. Hell nah, Y’all police are some p*****s, bro. Real shit, I don’t f**k with y’all.”

Jeremy Banks even told a female intern, “You don’t wanna be an intern because where I’m from we shoot at cops. I’m from Memphis, Tennessee.”

Fortunately, the running back eventually mellowed out and even sang and complimented the police on his way to the detention center.

The following day, with a clear head, the sheepish player released a statement on the matter. He said, “I want to sincerely apologize to my family, the University of Tennessee and the law enforcement community. I deeply regret my language and attitude in the video.”

“I have great respect for our policemen and women, and I am embarrassed by my actions that night. That’s not who I am. I promise to be a better representative for the University of Tennessee moving forward.”

Meanwhile, coach Pruitt also addressed the incident and slammed Banks’ behaviour. Pruitt labelled the comments unacceptable and said that Jeremy Banks gave himself and the football program a bad name.

However, he also said that Jeremy Banks understood the consequences of his actions and an internal investigation was being conducted to resolve the matter.
