Matteo Guendouzi has been pointed out as one of the good things that has happened to Arsenal in what has been a difficult season for the Gunners. Arsenal sit 6th now, with Manchester United overtaking them in 5th after a spectacular run by the Red Devils. Arsenal on the other hand have been inconsistent over the past few months, with wins over Chelsea being overshadowed by their performances against the likes of West Ham and Manchester United.

Guendouzi was a talking point after their recent game against Manchester City at the Etihad which they lost 3-1. A game in which Arsenal struggled, Guendouzi seemed to be in control, making runs beating the City midfield, and trying to make things happen, only to be let down by his team mates. Arsenal legend Ian Wright and Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Arsenal have a proper player in their ranks, one who can have a team built around by manager Unai Emery.

During his Sky Sports commentary, Neville said, “He’s done well. He’s coming into a team that is changing. This is a tough place to play football but he’s standing up, that’s the main thing. He’s trying to match the runs of Manchester City’s midfield which is tough.”

Also, after the match, while speaking on the Gary Neville podcast, Gary explained: “[Emery] is finding out a lot about his players all the time. For instance, Guendouzi today I thought was fantastic. Nineteen years of age that was a really good performance and he can build around things like that.”

Guendouzi also found some praise from ex-Arsenal player and legend, Ian Wright, who liked what he saw from Guendouzi at the Etihad. While speaking to Match of the Day on BBC, “Matteo Guendouzi, you have to say, to go to City and put in the shift that he put in today, never gave up, fighting all the way to the end, and that is the spirit, that is the kind of player that we want there [at Arsenal].
