Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has joined Arsenal after agreeing a season-long loan with the Premier League heavyweights.
The Spain international agreed personal terms with the Gunners last week with the move to the Emirates Stadium now completed. Though there is no clause inserted in the contract which will allow Arsenal to permanently sign Ceballos after the loan ends, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will reportedly speak to the Premier League club in June 2020 regarding the midfielder’s situation.
Dani Ceballos was signed by Real Madrid in 2017 after his impressive run of form for Real Betis. The 22-year old is a hugely-talented midfielder, recently winning the U21 Euro Championships with Spain and also earning a place in the Team of the Tournament.
Ceballos has had limited starts at the Santiago Bernabeu given the likes of Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Isco and Casemiro among others who are ahead of him in the pecking order. However, the youngster is very much a part of Zinedine Zidane’s future plans at the club.
A loan move to Arsenal not only provides Dani Ceballos a chance to prove himself in the biggest league in the world but also helps him grow as a player in order to compete with Real Madrid’s superstar midfielders in the coming years. However, an impressive season at the Emirates could tempt Arsenal to splash the cash for him next summer.
Arsenal owners have handed Unai Emery a limited budget to work with this summer. The Spanish manager has already brought in Saint Etienne centre-back William Saliba for €34m and youngster Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian club Ituano and looks to add Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha and Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney this summer. A season-long loan for Dani Ceballos is smart business by Emery and his management.
The Europa League finalists will cover Ceballos’ wages as he will earn close to £3m-a-year. Unai Emery heaped praise on the promising midfielder.
“We were speaking about the possibility to sign one player on loan and we have different names. The club was working on that. Dani Ceballos is a very good player, I know him from Betis at the beginning and also at Real Madrid,” he said.
“He played very well with the under-21s, they won with his national team in this competition.”
