Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards put on one of the most dominating performances of his career against Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington at the main event of UFC 296. Easily winning 4 of the 5 rounds to win by decision. Covington had talked a lot in the build-up to the fight, however, failed to show up when it mattered, which caused an immense backlash for one of the two fighters.

The dominating performance made many fans and fighters alike praise the welterweight champion while many ridiculed Covington for his performance. Edwards was not only praised for his performance against Covington but also because of the shared dislike people have for Covington. Even leading to the heavy champion praising Edwards for his victory.

Jon Jones and Colby Covington have had quite an unusual beef stemming from all the back from college as the two were roommates. Covington has made some bold accusations against Jones about using performance-enhancing drugs.

However, Jones dismissed the allegations, calling Covington a “bad person” and a “habitual liar” even claiming to never share a room with the heel of UFC. The two disliked each other to the point where Covington reportedly refused to fight on the same UFC card. So it wasn’t a surprise to see Jones congratulating the welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, on X (formerly known as Twitter) for beating Colby Covington in their fight.

In the tweet, Jones wrote, “Leon Edwards, I couldn’t be more happy for you. As an American champion in this game, I salute you, that was truly a job well done. Let me know if I can gift you a motorcycle or something for Christmas. Feel like I owe you one”

Covington has disappointed himself and his fans with the lackluster performance he put up against Edwards on UFC 296. The underwhelming performance also had another UFC champion tweet about the fighters.

In the buildup to the fight, Colby Covington called out lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, on many occasions. Terming the lightweight champion as a “weight bully”. Suggesting that Makhachev should move up in weight and fight him instead of fighting lightweights.

However, after the lackluster performance caught the eye of the lightweight champion, leading him to believe that the welterweight title is ripe for picking. He tweeted, “I will finish both this guy” probably suggesting that he believes can finish both Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. Islam Makhachev is coming off a first-round KO of Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski. So it is only feasible that the Dagestani champion is looking for a new title to add to his collection.
