Ashleigh Barty battles past 17-year-old, Amanda Anisimova 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in a thrilling match to reach the finals of the French Open 2019. With this victory, she reaches the first grand slam final of her career.
The two players were meeting for the first time in their career. Ashleigh Barty made steady progress at the Roland Garros 2019 as she became the first Australian woman to reach the semi-finals of a major tournament after Samantha Stosur is 2016. She is certainly going to make it to the top-5 rankings of WTA after the end of the biggest clay court event.
On the other hand, Amanda Anisimova, the 17-year-old stunned the defending champion, Simona Halep to reach the semifinals of the French Open 2019. She also became the youngest woman to make it to the Grand Slam semifinals after Venus Williams in US Open 1997.
The first set was quite one-sided in the start as Ashleigh Barty charged over a lead of 5-0 over Anisimova at Suzanne Lenglen. Only after 18 minutes, Barty was serving for the first set at 5-1. However, Anisimova finally got on the board as she broke Barty to win the 7th game and stay in the set.
Ashleigh Barty missed her second chance to serve out the set at 5-3 but it was the teenager who again broke her serve and came back into the match. The set went on till the tie-breaker, where Amanda Anisimova earned a mini-break at 6-4, serving for the set with 2 set points in hand. She didn’t miss this chance and made a remarkable comeback after being 5-0 down to conquer the first set 7-6.
Amanda Anisimova took the momentum in the second set as she won 17 points in a row to have a 3-0 lead over Barty. Ashleigh Barty finally broke the Australian in the 5th game of the second set to stay in the match.
The Australian earned a double break to get a 4-3 lead in the 2nd set. Ashleigh Barty came back into the match as she won 6 consecutive games to conquer the second set 6-3.
