World No.1 Ashleigh Barty survives in the second round of the Wuhan Open 2019 after losing the first set against Caroline Gracia defeating her 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in 2 hours and 12 minutes. With this victory, Barty avenges her last defeat against the French in the 2017 Wuhan Open finals.

Ashleigh Barty playing her first match since her fourth-round defeat at the US Open 2019, lost her the opening game of the match on her serve. She was however back on track after breaking back in the very next game to get back on serve.

The two players again exchanged a break of serve in the fifth and sixth game of the set respectively. Ashleigh Barty squandered two break point opportunities at 4-3. Caroline Garcia changed gears to break the world No.1 for the third time in the set to serve out for the first set. The French then closed the first set 6-4 after 55 minutes of play.

The second set was quite an equal one with both the players holding their serves till 5-4 when the Australian broke Caroline Garcia while she was serving to stay in the set. Ashleigh Barty forced the match to the final set after winning the second set 6-4 in 51 minutes.

Set three

Ashleigh Barty was in full control in the final set as she was all over the 25-year-old after breaking her in the fourth game to take a comfortable lead. Barty then wasted no time as she broke Garcia back to win claim the third set 6-1 and win the match. With this victory, Barty reaches the third round of the Wuhan Open 2019.
