Atletico De Kolkata’s Borja signs for Eibar

Borja Fernandez was among the most successful players in the Indian Super League’s inaugural season. Post the season, Borja Fernandez has capped a new feather in his hat by joining Eibar which announced his signing on their official Twitter feed.

Borja Fernandez, who is a former graduate of Real Madrid Youth system and had made his competitive La Liga debut for Los Blancos, has played 23 games for Madrid and then made 187 appearances for Mallorca. After emerging victorious at the Indian Super League with Atletico De Kolkata, Borja attracted interest from the La Liga sides and now Eibar have acted swiftly and finally signed Atletico De Kolkata’s star player.

Borja will join the La Liga outfit and will be available for selection once the winter break is over in January.Making their return to the top flight, Eibar has been the surprise package in this season’s La Liga. Eibar is ranked 9 in La Liga and Borja would look surely forward to carry his form for Atletico De Kolakata and add crucial mid field creativity to Eibar’s play.

Borja played 16 games in ISL Season 1, scoring a memorable long range volleyed goal against Mumbai FC and creating 2 goals for his side. Borja’s move to Eibar is the second high profile transfer to have taken place since Indian Super League’s first season. John Mendoza’s move to Corinthians was the first eye catchy transfer post the ISL phenomenon.
