Atletico Madrid have reignited their interest in Arsenal’s star midfielder Santi Cazorla after tracking the player for the last three years. Los Rojiblancos are looking to replace Arda Turan, who is all set to leave the club, and might have found the perfect replacement in Cazorla.
Atleti manager Diego Simeone has been looking for a midfielder to fill in the gap which will be left by the departure of Arda Turan, who handed in a transfer request to the club in early June. The manager has been interested in the midfielder for the last three years and reckons Cazorla has the creativity to replace the 28-year-old Turkish midfielder,
Cazorla arrived at Arsenal from Malaga in 2012, and has been impressive in all the three seasons he has played in the premier league. The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in two successful seasons. Cazorla scored eight goals last season for Arsenal and was the leading playmaker in Wenger’s team with 15 assists in all competitions.
However, Cazorla has just a year left on his current contract with Arsenal and reports suggest that the Spaniard might be interested in a move which will allow him to play in his homeland. Atletico Madrid might use Arda Turan, who has been linked with a move to the premier league, as a part of the deal that sees Cazorla make the switch to Vicente Calderon
Cazorla was one of the best players for Arsenal last season and will head into the next season as the first-choice central midfielder for Arsene Wenger. Many Arsenal supporters would be unhappy to see Cazorla leave this summer as he played an important role in the heart of the side’s midfield. The Spaniard also re-iterated his desire to stay at Arsenal recently, stating that he is happy at the North London club. So Atletico Madrid have a tough job at hand if they want to bring the little midfield magician to Madrid.
