The ATP tour is to resume on July 13th. Some of the tournaments that could not be conducted are to be played in the second half of the year. In a recent interview with Ubitennis, the ATP chairman discussed how he plans to achieve this. He said,
“We are working on the possibility of a four-weeks clay swing after the US Open. The best-case scenario would be to have the North American swing during the summer, then the clay, then Asia, and then the ATP Finals.”

This seems like a good plan. The ATP chairman said that it should save 80% of the tour after the cancelation of the grass-court tournaments. Totally, 7 masters titles and 3 grand slams would be conducted. It clearly seems like the ATP tour is not completely in ruins.
While this is certainly good news, this plan can only work if the situation with the coronavirus improves within the next few months. Unfortunately, the pandemic seems to be getting worse and worse which may complicate the ATP schedule.
The ATP chairman talked about the schedule getting complicated if the 2020 US Open gets canceled. He said that the complexity of the situation would increase exponentially and they would have to consider playing in November and December. They are trying not to think about it and are focusing on restarting the tour in July.
Let’s hope the situation with the virus improves so that we get to see some tennis this year and be able to cheer for our favorite players in the tournaments.
