The 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships are just as action-packed as the tournaments from earlier in the year. The defending champion, Daniil Medvedev, has managed to secure his entry in the quarterfinal. He will now play against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for a shot to reach the tournament’s semifinal.

Davidovich Fokina has been on shaky grounds in 2024 so far. A better start to the year would likely boost him for the rest of the season. While he will wish to defeat Medvedev, it will certainly not come easy.

Daniil Medvedev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina: Preview

Medvedev came into 2024 ranked third after having a fantastic run in 2023. He began 2024 strongly with the Australian Open and reached the final, albeit it was hardly a stroll. He played in three five-setter matches, sealing a comeback twice. He lost in the final to Jannik Sinner, but the tournament boosted him further.

In Dubai, Meddy comes on as a defending champion and beats his first two opponents in a great display of tennis. Now, he will play Fokina, hoping to reach the final to defend his title.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina also began the year at the Australian Open. While he won his first round in straight sets, he couldn’t continue his stint. He had better results in the Open 13, where he managed to win his first two matches, before being ousted by Humbert in round three. He also played in Rotterdam and Qatar but found himself eliminated in the first round of both tournaments.

In Dubai, Fokina won his first-round clash and then received a walkover in the second round. Now, he will play against the defending champion of the tournament.
