Dominic Thiem and his run in the Hamburg Open

As the Austrian decided to pull out of the Olympic Games a few days ago, following the footsteps of Rafael Nadal, he will be fully focusing on the rest of the tournaments.

The World No5 has never reached beyond the quarterfinal stage in Hamburg. He reached the quarterfinals in successive years, in 2018 and 2019, eventually losing out to stronger opponents. Even though he was the number one seed in 2018, he could not win the tournament.

I’m very happy to be coming back to Hamburg. I hope to play a great tournament in front of the German crowd and I hope to lift the trophy for the first time,” said Thiem in a statement.
