Dominic Thiem and his run in the Hamburg Open
As the Austrian decided to pull out of the Olympic Games a few days ago, following the footsteps of Rafael Nadal, he will be fully focusing on the rest of the tournaments.
The World No5 has never reached beyond the quarterfinal stage in Hamburg. He reached the quarterfinals in successive years, in 2018 and 2019, eventually losing out to stronger opponents. Even though he was the number one seed in 2018, he could not win the tournament.
“I’m very happy to be coming back to Hamburg. I hope to play a great tournament in front of the German crowd and I hope to lift the trophy for the first time,” said Thiem in a statement.
The Hamburg Open will also allow spectators into the stadium. The ATP will allow 3500 spectators inside the stadium. In order to get entry into the stadium, the spectators need to take the vaccine. As a result of a failure to take the vaccine, the spectators either need to test negative for the virus or recover fully from the disease.

Dominic Thiem will have to face a stern test in the upcoming tournaments. Wimbledon is one of the most prestigious events in the history of the sport. He will have to face the best in the world, in order to win his first slam title on grass. He will be more than motivated to finish on a high note in Hamburg, in July, as a result of previous failed attempts. The Austrian will attempt at bettering his record.
