Dominic Thiem has pulled out of the Olympic Games, however, he will be playing in the Wimbledon Championships 2021. The Austrian will also play at the ATP Hamburg Open, having signed a two-year deal with the ATP 500 event in Germany. The ATP Hamburg 2021 begins on the 12th of July.

Thiem, who lost to Pablo Andujar in the first round of the French Open, is playing in the ATP 250 Mallorca. The World No.5 is looking for his first title on grass court, as he prepares for Wimbledon.

As the Austrian decided to pull out of the Olympic Games a few days ago, following the footsteps of Rafael Nadal, he will be fully focusing on the rest of the tournaments.

The World No5 has never reached beyond the quarterfinal stage in Hamburg. He reached the quarterfinals in successive years, in 2018 and 2019, eventually losing out to stronger opponents. Even though he was the number one seed in 2018, he could not win the tournament.

I’m very happy to be coming back to Hamburg. I hope to play a great tournament in front of the German crowd and I hope to lift the trophy for the first time,” said Thiem in a statement.

The Hamburg Open will also allow spectators into the stadium. The ATP will allow 3500 spectators inside the stadium. In order to get entry into the stadium, the spectators need to take the vaccine. As a result of a failure to take the vaccine, the spectators either need to test negative for the virus or recover fully from the disease.
