The ATP Moselle Open showed us great action in the first round. Many great players exited, but the ones who triumphed will get a chance to go deeper in the championship. Stan Wawrinka is one such player and will now face Luka Van Assche in his next bout. The Swiss and the French player will bring their A-game into the match and attempt to make sure they defeat their opponent. However, who has a better chance of winning?

Stan Wawrinka has not been able to recreate the feats that he achieved when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the Grand Slam finals. He had to go on an extended hiatus due to an injury in 2021. He fell in 2022, but he has been steadily rising through the ranks in 2023. And now, Wawrinka has revived his form to some extent. He has played as far as round three in grand slams and round four in Masters tournaments.

The end-season fatigue seemed to be affecting the Swiss player as he stumbled on his way to the Moselle Open. However, a dominant victory of 6-0, 6-2 in his first-round bout seems to have revived his vigor.

Luka Van Assche is a 19-year-old Frenchman figuring out his place on the senior tour. He has not managed to go further than round 2 in slams and round 1 in Masters. But Van Assche has improved his performance in the ATP Challenger series. He has won three Challengers this year. He had a similar track as Wawrinka as he stepped into the Moselle Open. However, he won his first round after a lengthy three-set bout.

Stan Wawrinka vs Luka Vab Assche: Head-To-Head

The two players have faced each other only once in their careers. Their bout took place in the SRPSKA Open earlier this year in April. They played against each other in the opening round. Wawrinka began with a dominant show of tennis as he clinched the first set 6-1. The second set was hard fought between the two players.

It went to a tie-breaker and ended up with Assche as the victor. The third set was also a battle, but Assche emerged victorious again and ended the match with the final score of 1-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Prediction: Luka Van Assche to become the victor once again against the Swiss star

Despite both players having a rocky path to the Moselle Open, the younger Assche has more mental momentum. He has won three tournaments this year and is still growing his skills.
