‘Best Sport in the World’: Kim Clijsters and Others React to Daniil Medvedev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime Australian Open Thriller

Melbourne Park saw an absolutely extraordinary match today. The quarterfinal clash between World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev and 9th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime provided fans of the sport with many incredible moments. In the end, it was Medvedev who survived, but the Canadian thoroughly put him to the test.

Medvedev overcame a two-set deficit and saved a match point against the youngster to progress to the Semis.

The tennis world reacts to the breathtaking encounter

The Rod Laver Arena had an electric atmosphere for the entirety of the match, its intensity unmatched so far. Both the players played incredible tennis, though it took Medvedev quite some time to find his groove. Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime both have neat ball strokes and did not shy away from taking risks. This elevated the match and made it all the more fun for everyone to witness.

The tennis world erupted with their praise for the quality of tennis both the payers displayed. The US Open official Twitter account tweeted: “This match is ridiculous.”

Donna Vekic, the Croatian professional also tweeted about the epic post-match on-court interview Daniil had.

Rob Koenig also posted about how exceptional Daniil Medvedev had been in the match, to turn it done from two sets now. He hailed the world No. 1 as “King Daniil.

Former World No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam champion, Kim Clijsters, exclaimed about how the level of tennis at the Australian Open was exceptional. “Australian Open tennis is the best sport in the world,” her tweet read.

Daniil Medvedev tried to do what Novak would

In the on-court interview, Medvedev talked about how he overcame the Auger-Aliassime challenge, even after being two sets down. He said that he tried to emulate a mindset that the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic might have, in a similar situation.

Medvedev has gone on record about his admiration for the Serbian superstar. He is now one step closer to claiming Djokovic’s favourite tournament as his own. He will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal. Tsitsipas defeated young Italian Jannik Sinner, in straight sets, in what was his best performance throughout the tournament.
