Novak Djokovic has not had the best start to this year. His vaccination status is making it difficult for him to take part in countries that have a mandate. After his withdrawal from Indian Wells and Miami Open, he announced that he would be resuming his 2022 season with the clay swing, thereby confirming his presence at the Monte Carlo Masters.

What is next for Novak Djokovic?

Things are now looking up for him as he was also announced as a part of the main draw at Serbia open, an ATP 250 event held in Novak Djokovic’s hometown, Belgrade. Also, the tournament will take place the Serb’s own tennis center.

It is clear that Djokovic is focused on clay as he prepares to defend his title at the French Open. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will most likely to play in Paris.

Dominic Thiem set to return

The tournament will also mark the return of Dominic Thiem who has been out of the tour for several months because of an injury.

At the Mallorca Championships in 2021, Thiem suffered a wrist injury on his right hand during the match against Adrian Mannarino. This led him to withdraw from the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. While he said that he would be returning to the tour at the Mubadala Exhibition event, he was not 100% ready to hit the courts.

Coming to the Serbia Open, alongside Djokovic and Thiem, the tournament will also see the participation of other elite players on the ATP tour.  Gael Monfils, Karen Khachanov , and Cristian Garin are all set to play in Belgrade. The tournament will be held from the 18th to the 24th of April, at the Novak Tennis Centre.
