Frances Tiafoe opens up about an issue with tennis

The 25-year-old tennis player is a huge basketball fan, along with being a professional tennis player. He has donned various basketball jerseys, attended NBA games, and even participated in all-star celebrity basketball tournaments. And as a person who has seen both sports quite closely, in a recent interview with Forbes, he talked about an issue he figured out as a huge problem in the tennis world. Along with that, he also talked about bringing a cultural change that will bring entertainment and enthusiasm to tennis.

He said, “I think fans should be able to come and go and move around, and speak during matches. Imagine going to a basketball game and not saying anything.” Additionally, he also focused on how some of the tennis tournaments, like Wimbledon, should retain the traditional way of playing tennis. He added, “outside that, let’s start to change things to bring younger fans to the game.”

If this change is implemented, according to the 2022 US Open semifinalist, the sport will have the interest of the younger audience, just like basketball. However, the American tennis star is not the first person to speak up on the idea of how to connect young audiences to the sport. Earlier, Serena Williams’ former coach also talked about how making small changes can enhance the sport.

A few years back, the French coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, while delivering a lecture at the Web Technology Summit, talked about the factors that can bring new fans to the sport. The 52-year-old tennis coach highlighted the fact that in order to bring new fans to the sport, the sport should change some old rules.

He also highlighted how the majority of people will agree with this. Mouratoglou emphasized how rather than disappointing the majority of the tennis fan base, the sport should focus on attracting new audiences.
