The PGA Tour and LIV Golf had immense drama transpiring between each other, with lawsuits flying about. However, the two settled their differences and merged to form one golfing association. This move did not go well with several golfing personalities, Tiger Woods was one of them. Now, even John McEnroe has come and stated his disdain for the move, launching an attack on the PGA.
McEnroe’s statements did not fly only for the PGA. His worries also expand to the sport where he was once a feared player. The Public Investment Fund has also shown interest in investing in the ATP, which is something the Superbrat worries about.

John McEnroe calls out the hypocrisy
McEnroe is not a personality who minces his words. After all the courtroom drama, PGA’s decision to merge with LIV Golf did not sit well with McEnroe. In an interview with Express, McEnroe expressed his irritation at the news. Staying true to himself, McEnroe was not shy to call the American golfing association hypocrites for making the deal after the entire debacle.
McEnroe said, “It looked to me like the PGA were total hypocrites when they cut a deal after they’ve been fighting them, in my opinion,” He further added, “At the same time the people that are complaining about it, a lot of the people are hypocrites because our government does business with them along with tons of other hedge funds, wealth funds, down the list, people that have dealings. What about Ronaldo? He’s being paid a couple hundred million a year.”

McEnroe further went on to call out other individuals who were complaining about the merger. He cited all the deals which take place between the US government with Saudi Arabia. McEnroe even gave the example of Cristiano Ronaldo. The soccer star is playing for Al-Nassr FC on a contract close to $200 million.
The merger of the PIF will have effects on every sport in the world. With the PIF also looking into investing in tennis, the Superbrat has already voiced his disdain.

Superbrat against tennis investment
In the same interview with Express UK, McEnroe also voiced his concerns about the PIF investing in tennis. He said that he does not encourage it but knew it was coming.
McEnroe expressed his annoyance as he said, “I’m not surprised. I wouldn’t encourage it personally, the Saudi thing. I’m not surprised that tennis is being thrown into the mix after what we saw in golf. I don’t think that’s something that we should be pursuing, per se. It’s not in my hands.”
While many are against the investment of Saudi Arabia in sports, others, such as Nick Kyrgios and Carlos Alcaraz favor it. In the manner events are transpiring, it seems to be a matter of time before the PIF gets its hands on other activities.
