The effects of serious diseases often live on even after recovery. Survival comes at the cost of persistent pain. A famous Hollywood celebrity is experiencing that at the moment. John McEnroe’s ex-wife Tatum O’Neal has been struggling to get back on her feet after past mishaps. At 59 years of age, it is only starting to have major impacts on O’Neal’s health.

The Hollywood star had suffered from cardiac arrest three years ago. Her recovery chances were slim but she made it through. Well, surviving as mentioned above, always comes at the cost of pain. O’Neal similarly is facing negative impacts of the disease, even after three years.

John McEnroe’s ex-wife continues to deal with pain

2020 was a wild year. The pandemic was upon us and dealing with quarantine took a toll on people’s lives. Things went from bad to worse for certain families like that of O’Neal’s when Tatum O’Neal was discovered unconscious.

She was taken to the hospital where the doctors revealed that the 59-year-old had suffered a stroke. “She also had a cardiac arrest and a number of seizures. There were times we didn’t think she was going to survive.” her eldest son, Kevin said via The Hollywood Reporter.

However, O’Neal responded after six long weeks. But things weren’t the same as her daughter revealed later. The Hollywood star’s right frontal cortex was affected by the stroke. To this date, O’Neal suffers from several complications. Her daughter said, “I still don’t have the words for everything she says.” thereby confirming how difficult it is for them to communicate now.

A few months ago, McEnroe’s son admitted how difficult it was to grow up with O’Neal and her addictions.

Kevin McEnroe opened up on his mother’s drug addiction which went out of control after a point. He said that her sobriety was never sustained and growing up in the same household was difficult.

Kevin spent years trying to convince his mother but it all went in vain. O’Neal eventually had a stroke owing to a drug overdose which now forced her to leave drugs for good. Apparently, the Hollywood star is sober for three years now.
