16-Time American Grand Slam Champion Slapped With a Hefty $10000 Fine Alongside Another Tennis Veteran for Promoting Betting

Tennis is a sport famous for its discipline. The mental strength, which makes a professional control his emotions and urges, is a vital part of the sport. Therefore, it is always hard to believe, whenever a player is involved in some legal breach. Recently, Mardy Fish and Bob Bryan have been slapped with hefty fines for their actions on social media.

The retired tennis players recently faced allegations of foul play. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) questioned and fined them for misuse of their social media presence. Here are the details.

The consequences that followed Mardy Fish and Bryan’s action

The US Davis Cup team coaches received charges for promoting a gambling operator via social media. The ITIA announced the punishment on Tuesday. Noting their cooperative behaviour and keeping in mind that it might be a mistake, they fined Bryan and Fish $10000 each.

Further, they also received a four-month ban, which will only be enforced if there is another breach of this capacity. “Bob and I did a DraftKings promo during the U.S. Open that we were unaware we weren’t allowed to do,” Fish confessed.

“As soon as we found out, I deleted the posts and cooperated with the ITIA,” Fish added. He has been the US Davis Cup captain since 2019 and during his absence, because of COVID-19, Bryan took charge. This season, the US made up to the quarterfinals losing its seat to Italy in the semis. USA’s bid for the 33rd Davis Cup title ended with a 2-1 defeat.

The American tennis professionals, currently in their 40s, had impactful careers. Starting with Bryan, he claimed the crown of doubles World No 1 and 23 Grand Slam titles (16 in men’s doubles and 7 in mixed doubles).

Further, he brought America a Gold and a Bronze medal in the Olympic games. Speaking of Fish, he was famous hold on hard court-based tournaments.

The former World No 7 has a total of six ATP trophies and four finals run in the Masters series marked under his name. Also like Bryan, he won a silver medal in Olympics in Athens in 2004. However, in Grand Slams, he could only make up to the quarterfinals.
