Stan Wawrinka, the Swiss tennis star, shared intricate details regarding his performance in an exclusive interview. Wawrinka has lost several significant months of his career because of surgery on his left foot. The 37-year-old disqualified himself from being able to win a Grand Slam after surgery, similar to the legends Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
In the interview, he asserted that he could never match the two tennis aces. Rafael Nadal and Federer were able to win Major titles despite having a fair share of injury concerns in their 30s. They had taken the required steps to recuperate from serious injuries. Wawrinka asserted that he couldn’t compete with the two as he wouldn’t be able to give his best performance.

Wawrinka shares his utmost respect for Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer
According to the ATP tour website, Wawrinka defeated Alexander Bublik in his first match of the year, 6-3 7-6 (3). Wawrinka will take part in the 2023 Australian Open after the United Cup. At the 2014 Australian Open, he won the first Grand Slam championship of his career. A reporter questioned him at the United Cup press conference after the game. The reporter asked him whether he thought he would be able to win a Grand Slam after surgery. Wawrinka said that he didn’t think that would happen since he was in his late 30s. It will be intriguing to see if Wawrinka completes a significant Grand Slam in 2023. He further shared his due respect for legendary players like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
In their previous encounters, Wawrinka had a losing record of 0-2, against Bublik. But the Swiss star won his first match of the year in an hour and 31 minutes by forgoing his captain’s hat in favor of his racquet.
The Swiss star shared, “I think it’s impossible to compare Roger and Rafa with the rest of the players.” Wawrinka feels that all players are different. He also added, “I’m not getting younger. It’s more difficult.”

Wawrinka believes that he still has some big results to achieve. He assured me that he would win major tournaments this season. Wawrinka added,”…as long as I enjoy what I’m doing, love what I’m doing, and now that I do the right thing to be at my best, I will keep going a little bit.“ In addition, Wawrinka said that he still believed he was capable of winning games. After having knee surgery at the start of the 2017 season, Federer won three Grand Slam championships in a period of one and a half. Nadal’s career appeared to be in danger in 2021, but after recovering from a foot ailment in 2022, he won two Grand Slams.
Wawrinka once selected a rival he believed would be the most difficult to defeat in their prime
Wawrinka has competed against Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic at their favorite Grand Slam events. He undoubtedly comprehends what it’s like to face off against the Big Three in each of their distinct tournaments. Wawrinka acknowledged that clay is the hardest surface to play Nadal on. According to him, Federer in his prime couldn’t lose on grass, but there was still a chance to draw the match. The Swiss great is one of the elite few athletes that have defeated the Big three more than once.

In the French Open title race, Wawrinka hasn’t had the same success as Nadal. In the clay tournament, the Spaniard utterly destroyed Wawrinka. He lost two matches in 2013 and 2017, both by the exact score of 6-2, 6-3, 6-1. This makes it obvious why, in his opinion, Nadal is the hardest player to defeat on his preferred surface, given his experience.
