Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal is making his comeback at the Madrid open 2022 after a spectacular run at the Indian Wells event. A hairline rib fracture ruled out the Spaniard for few weeks and that led him to miss the start of the clay season.

Although Nadal is lacking enough match practice ahead of the French Open, he still walks in as the title contender. However, Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou thinks differently. The French coach has commented that Nadal won’t be as strong as before to claim yet another Roland Garros title.

Responding to Patrick’s opinion, Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya called him out over his ignorance in not identifying the Spaniard’s humongous achievements.

Carlos Moya reminds Patrick Mouratoglou about Nadal’s Achievements

Mouratoglou had said that the Spaniard lacks big match experience on clay this year and hence won’t be a favorite to win the French Open.

“He will not reach his best level at Roland Garros because he needs to play many games and he will not have them. It is very strange for him to arrive in Paris having played so little on land.”

Moya was clearly not happy with the comments made by the Frenchman. He took to Twitter to show his disagreement by listing down Nadal’s achievements.

“17 years in a row top 10, Roland Garros’20 with 3 matches in 7 months, Australian Open’22 with 3 matches in 6 months… a little respect and memory @pmouratoglou,” Moya reminded Mouratoglou.

Rafael Nadal is fondly called the King of Clay owing to his spectacular record in the clay-court tournaments. The Spaniard has 62 titles on the red dirt, which is the highest by any tennis player ever.

The Spaniard enjoys complete dominance at the French Open. The 35-year-old has won the title 13 times, managed to win over 100 matches at Roland Garros and has lost just three times in his entire career. Defeating Nadal in the French Open is one of the hardest tasks for any player and only two players in the history have done it.

Looking at the records, we can say that Moya is not wrong about his pupil. However, the points made by Mouratoglou are valid too. With Nadal starting his clay season for this year with today’s game in Madrid Open, it will be interesting to see if the king still reigns.
