Former German tennis player Boris Becker has had a torrid 2022, as he received a jail sentence earlier in April. Notably, the former world no.1 will serve a prison sentence of 2 and a half years after hiding £2.5 million worth of loans and assets to avoid paying his debts.

Meanwhile, according to a few prison inmates, Becker has been living a charmed life in prison. According to reports, some of the families of other prisoners have written letters of complaint about Becker’s situation.

Inmates are not happy with Boris Becker landing a job inside the prison

Currently, the 6-time Grand Slam champion, Becker is serving his prison sentence in Oxfordshire. According to reports, inside the prison, he has become a classroom assistant, teaching other prisoners sports science. However, this did not go down well with the families of other prisoners, according to one insider.

That insider said, “You would normally serve years before getting a job as a classroom assistant as it is seen as a privilege. But Becker has been given the job within weeks of being sentenced.“

“There is a lot of resentment about it and the families of some prisoners have written letters of complaint. It’s not exactly the life of luxury he’s used to — but he’s got it better than most inmates,” the insider further said. 

According to The Sun, Becker watched the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships inside the prison, as Novak Djokovic lifted his 7th Wimbledon title at Centre Court. Notably, Becker joined Djokovic’s coaching unit in 2013 and they had a successful partnership of 3 years.

Becker became the youngest ever Wimbledon Champion

In 1985, Becker won the Wimbledon Championships by defeating Kevin Curren in the final at the age of 17, the youngest ever. Moreover, he became the only unseeded player to win the Wimbledon title.

Overall, Becker won three Wimbledon titles in his career. Out of his 6 Grand Slam titles, he won the Australian Open twice and the US Open once. Apart from that, he also secured 15 doubles titles. Most importantly, he won the Olympic Gold medal in the doubles tournament in 1992. After retiring in 1999, he worked as a commentator for various TV channels and covered the Wimbledon Championships for many years.
