Carlos Moya has been the coach of 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal since 2016. After the Spaniard’s historic 14th French Open title win, Nadal has cemented himself as one of the greatest ever players in tennis history.

Moya, who is also a former World No.1 has been present in the coaching box during Nadal’s matches on Tour. However, he is not a fan of ATP’s decision to introduce off-court coaching.

The ATP earlier announced that a trial will permit coaching from designated coach seats from July onwards. However, Moya did not seem to be pleased with the decision. In a new interview, Moya said, “My position is that I am not in favor of the introduction of ‘coaching’.”

“I think that precisely tennis is characterized by the absence of help on the court, it is a solo battle for the tennis player, nothing more. Nothing to do with other sports,” he added.

The trial will also be in place for the final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open. Trials have been conducted in the past, but this step could be a possible game-changer for the future of tennis.

Will Nadal continue his hot streak at Wimbledon?

Nadal will return immediately to the grass courts at SW19, after winning his 22nd Grand Slam title. The Spaniard has been sensational this season, after a long battle with injuries. However, with the win in Paris, Nadal will be seeded 2nd at the All-England Club.
