A Year After Retiring From Tennis Roger Federer Opens Up on the ‘Best’ Feeling From the Sport as He Delves Into a ‘Much More Significant Investment ‘

It’s been a year since Roger Federer left the tennis world sobbing, before hanging up his racquet. Still, as they say, passion for a sport stays with you forever. In a recent chat, the Swiss legend poured his heart out for the world to see his passion for tennis that still persists. Federer was accompanied by a board member at Mercedes-Benz, Britta Seeger. The interview covered a lot of things. However, one question got the former World’s No.1 to open up in a completely different way. 

Federer spent 24 long years playing with the racquet. He went on to become one of the, if not the most successful tennis players. The interview was mainly to cover his association with the brand. 

What does Roger Federer love the most about tennis?

The 103-time ATP winner spent the majority of his life being involved in tennis. He went on to make many records during his career. This is why, GQ asked him whether he feels like he has to give something in return for tennis. A sport that literally made him beyond successful. Roger’s answer to this was:

“Yes. I’ve always loved it when athletes could inspire each other. Those moments outside of the match, when you learn from each other and briefly forget that you’re about to compete again, are the best. I love creating something positive together with others. And money doesn’t always have to be the main driver. Sometimes a good idea or time is a much more significant investment.”

Federer expressed his deepest love for the moments when players inspire each other and learn as well. He detailed the brief situation when there’s no competition among the players. He also talked about how he would love to make a positive impact with the help of others. According to him, money is not the sole factor responsible for bringing progress.

Roger stated that a good idea and time can prove to be better forces to bring out the best in something. His deal with the brand also fuels a lot of changes in the society.

Federer and Benz join hands to bring the change

Until now, Federer has launched two initiatives to spread the growth of tennis in Canada as well as the UK. Federer’s Legacy Initiative takes the responsibility of helping the UK government to bring forth young talents in Tennis. One of the major projects in this Legacy Initiative is The Bostall Gardens tennis courts.

The second one is the program named Powering Your Future. This came into existence as Federer collaborated with the Non-profit, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada with the support of Mercedes-Benz.

The bond between athletes is what keeps the game alive, and Federer understands that well enough. Seems like he took retirement from tennis only to take the sport to new heights. It is absolutely wonderful how he has been making the future of tennis even brighter.
