Toni Nadal recently featured on the Double Bagel Tennis Podcast with Eric Han. He shared several anecdotes and qualities of Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard’s former coach talked about his biggest defeats in his long trophy laden career.
Toni Nadal is also the uncle of the former World No.1. He coached the 13-time French Open winner from 1990 to 2017. However, the Spaniard changed coaches in 2017 and joined hands with Carlos Moya and Francisco Roig.

Rafael Nadal is a 20 time Grand Slam winner and that includes 13 French Open titles. He has been one of the greatest players of all time and ruled the circuit for the past 20 years. However, every player has to suffer defeats and face difficult stages in their career.
“Rafael accepts defeat well. Of course there are some defeats that are really tough you know. I remember the feedback we had in the Australian Open in 2012 was tough, the defeat in Roland Garros 2009 was tough,” said Toni.

As a legend of the game and a great coach, Toni Nadal’s words can have a deep impact on people. He spoke highly of Nadal on the show, however he also managed to give some advice on accepting defeats.
“When you are a player, when you are a coach, everyone knows that when you arrive on the court, you can lose, you can win. Sometimes you have to lose, it’s a bad moment but we cannot do more,” said Toni.
Rafael Nadal will be out of action for the remainder of the season due to a foot injury. He won’t be playing at the US Open and a probable return for him will be at the Australian Open.
