Recently, the 22-year-old Italian, Jannik Sinner defeated Holger Rune by a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 margin at the final group stage match in Turin. With this victory the Italian secured the place for the Serbian icon, Novak Djokovic in the semis of the ATP Finals at the cost of the Dane. Aneke Rune looks back at the roller-coaster ride of her son, Holger Rune in 2023

Holger Rune was plagued with a back injury in the middle of the season. This injury took a toll on his performance at the bigger stages which were held later this year. But he somehow pulled the strings at the back end of the year to get featured in the ATP Finals for the first time in his career. Now, his mother recently posted a heartfelt message on Instagram. She asks him to learn from his mistakes and look forward to next season.

Here’s what Aneke Rune said: Looking back I would never have imagined it was so much harder to consolidate a position than getting it. The journey is so new still, we learn all the time and yet you accomplished so much already, Holger Rune. The experience and wisdom we bring into 2024 is precious. I look forward. Now it?s time to relax with the family and then do a lot of planning for next year,”

Aneke Rune also expressed her gratitude to his team for supporting her son throughout the season. She appreciated them for helping Rune to make his debut in the ATP Finals. Holger Rune had expressed his contentment with his performance this season and mentioned there is always room for improvement. He now looks forward to overcome this loss in Turin and start focusing on the next season.

Rune extends his partnership with the legend of the sport

The inclusion of the 55-year-old German former number 1 in tennis, Boris Becker at the later stages of the season had put wind in the sails of Holger Rune. Becker made an instant impact by helping Rune reach the SFs of the Swiss Indoors and QFs of Paris Masters. These results eventually helped Rune to book his ticket to Turin for the season-ending championship.

Now, Rune returns the favor by extending the coaching agreement with Boris Becker until 2024.
