World no.2 Novak Djokovic is certainly one of the firm favorites to win the US Open title. He has had an amazing year so far, losing just one grand slam match in the three concluded grand slams. And his one and only loss came against the world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the Wimbledon Championships. Throughout the year, he has looked like the man to beat, and though he lost a few matches in ATP events, in the grand slams he is a totally different character.

Djokovic seems to have no trouble in dispatching any of the next-generation superstars in the grand slams except for Carlos Alcaraz. It is the Murcian who has challenged him neck and neck and has even managed to prevail over him in a highly entertaining clash in Wimbledon. So Djokovic probably wants to regroup, settle down and analyze what went wrong in the match, and rectify those errors.

In order for that to happen, it seems like he will be missing some key tournaments in the American hard-court swing. He confirms his participation only in the Cincinnati masters before the US Open.

Novak Djokovic to play only in Cincinnati

It has been the new pattern for Novak Djokovic. Not to stretch too hard on other events before the grand slams. He has recently said that grand slams are where he would give his best and he takes them very seriously when compared to the other events. So he skips important tournaments before the grand slams. He says, “The plan is to play a tournament before going to the US Open 2023 and for that event to be the one in Cincinnati”.

He also didn’t take part in any tournament leading up to Wimbledon. But that lack of practice didn’t seem to affect his game at all as he coasted through all his opponents before faltering in the final to an inspired Alcaraz. But what is mystifying and at the same time surprising is that hard courts are his favorite surface and the reason why he chose to skip a handful of Masters 1000 tournaments is not clear.

Djokovic wants to avenge his Wimbledon defeat

We know Djokovic for his impeccable tennis dexterity and steely resolve. His stellar achievements have been possible because of his willingness to always compete at the highest level and his ever-admirable champion mindset. The 23-time Slam champion reveals he’s already contemplating the next Slam final with Alcaraz.

Djokovic expresses his wish to face Alcaraz in a five-setter in the US Open to exact revenge for the Wimbledon loss. He says, “Yeah, um, I hope we get to play in US Open. Why not? I think it’s good for the sport. 1 & 2 in the world facing each other in 5 hours, a 5-set thriller. Couldn’t be better for our sport in general. So why not?”

Moments After Wimbledon Despair, Novak Djokovic Already Eyes Revenge As He Makes Giant US Open Prophecy Involving Young Blood Carlos Alcaraz

In the match against Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, Djokovic won the first set 6-1. Just when everyone thought Djokovic had pocketed the match, Alcaraz had other plans, and he carved out his path to victory with some breathtaking tennis. Anyway, Djokovic is not someone who is going to let these disappointments bog him down and he is going to try his optimum best to dethrone the defending champion Alcaraz in the US Open.

Still, there is a lot of time for the US Open to start and it is too early to speculate what is going to happen there. So it will be safe to say that if these two wonderful competitors play a final again, it can rival the greatness of this Wimbledon or can be even more of a classic match than that.

The reason why Djokovic chose to cut down on the other Masters 1000 tournaments is unclear, but one can speculate that he wants to probably sit down with his team and his coach and see what went wrong in Wimbledon.
