The Swiss Maestro was active in 2017. After defeating his arch-rival Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Australian Open, Federer took an off to recuperate and prepare for the grass-court season. This meant that he was not going to play in clay courts. Hence, we saw his Met Gala debut.

But one of his biggest fans is the top authority of the Met Gala. Ana Wintour shared her emotions on the confirmation of Federer’s appearance as she penned down a Vogue essay on his retirement. Being an ardent fan, she has invited the couple for a long time. She stated, “I have been inviting Roger and Mirka, who have always turned me down—our fault for scheduling an event in the middle of the clay-court season.”

However, when the couple accepted the invitation in 2017, Wintour stated, “I didn’t let the opportunity go to waste.” She contacted Alessandro Michele, a Gucci designer, who kept the class of Federer intact with a blaring design on the back.

With a classic black-tie look, the designer put a massive, glittering crystal cobra on its back. Wintour herself marveled over how he looked. She stated, “And that night, Roger was by far the best dressed. Nineteen Grand Slams, one Met Gala and counting.”

That is how Federer aced the Met Gala 2017 look. This year, now that he has retired, Wintour did not miss out on the opportunity to up his game and made him the co-chair of this year’s event.
