It was the year 2003. Roger Federer was the fourth seed at the Wimbledon Championships and defeated Andy Roddick in the semifinals to make it to his maiden Grand Slam final. In the summit clash, he was up against Australia’s Mark Philippoussis. The Swiss maestro produced a scintillating performance to overcome his Australian rival in straight sets to lift his first Grand Slam title.

Years have passed and Federer has enthralled fans across the globe with his audacious displays on the tennis court. Further, he has gone on to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles in his illustrious career. However, over the last couple of years, he has suffered from injuries that have kept him away from competing at the highest level. Recently, he had another bad news coming his way.

Roger Federer loses his ATP ranking

The former World Number 1 last played at the Wimbledon Championships in 2021. At that tournament, he had a quarterfinal exit against Hubert Hurkacz. Subsequently, Federer suffered a knee injury that has troubled him in the past as well. He underwent knee surgery to repair the damage done, which ruled him out for the remainder of the 2021 season.

His rehabilitation process has taken time which has prevented Federer from competing this season. This has resulted in Federer losing all his ATP ranking points since he hasn’t competed for over a year now. The 20-time Grand Slam champion moved out of the ATP rankings chart when the latest rankings were issued yesterday.
