On Wednesday, Alex De Minaur earned a rare milestone for Australia after two decades, thanks to his sensational campaign at Shanghai Masters. The World No.7 is in solid form and is stopping at nothing. “I can really have a swing these next three or four years and really show that I’m at my peak and break through some barriers,” he said earlier. The 2025 US Open quarterfinalist just proved his mettle yet again with a historic career feat, joining the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz.

In his Round of 16 match in Shanghai, De Minaur bested Portugal’s Nuno Borges. In straight sets, he managed dismissed Borges’ challenge in an hour and 47 minutes. With a scoreline of 7-5, 6-2, De Minaur has made his way into the quarterfinal of the Shanghai Masters for the first time. What made the victory even more special is the fact that De Minaur has become only the third ATP player this season to win 50 singles matches on tour.
Apart from him, only Alcaraz and Fritz have done it in 2025. Not even Jannik Sinner has touched that mark so far, with 42 wins. With 67 wins so far, Alcaraz leads the tally while Fritz and De Minaur are level at 50 each.

Alex De Minaur exudes confidence after his 50th win
In the last three months, Alex De Minaur has been in a terrific form. In July, he won the Citi Open title in Washington. Then at the Canadian Open, the Aussie succeeded in reaching the quarterfinals. He maintained the consistency at the US Open as well, reaching the last eight before losing to Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
China Open saw him entering the semis where he missed out on the trophy after losing to eventual winner Jannik Sinner. However, De Minaur looks set to clinch a trophy in Shanghai this week. After winning the R16 battle against Borges, while claiming 50 seasonal victories, he reacted, “For me it just shows consistency and that is what I am most proud of,” reported ATP Tour’s website on October 8.
He continued, “Showing up every single week and it is an amazing number. I am hoping for many more to finish off the year and not stay at 50. It has been a successful trip to Asia so far.”
