The ongoing United Cup has undoubtedly piqued the interest of the tennis world. In a blockbuster matchup,  Alex de Minaur recently stunned everyone by outclassing Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Prior to his recent defeat, the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion was undefeated on Australian soil for an extraordinary period of six years.

In the process of ending Djokovic’s phenomenal match-winning streak, the Australian tennis player has also pulled off a ‘Roger Federer‘ to stamp the ’43’ curse on the Serbian tennis great.

Alex de Minaur puts an end to Novak Djokovic’s 43-match winning streak

The tennis community on Twitter can’t keep quiet as Alex de Minaur has pulled off an upset against the current number one player at the United Cup. Bastien Fachan, the renowned tennis journalist, took to social media to open up about how the ‘Djoker’ was on a 43-match winning streak on Australian soil prior to his recent defeat.

He tweeted, “Ironically, Djokovic’s even more extraordinary winning streak from the 2010 Davis Cup to the 2011 Roland-Garros semis also went extinct after…43 matches”

Another tennis fan page tweeted, “Winning Streak OVER! 🇦🇺Novak Djokovic loses his first match in Australia in *6 YEARS* (43 consecutive matches)! Alex De Minaur wins 6-4 6-4! 😮 Djokovic has 9-10 days until the start of the Australian Open to heal that wrist issue, which he says he’s had to do before.”

Just like De Minaur, the Swiss maestro Roger Federer also ended Djokovic’s 43-match win streak back in 2011.  The Serb’s phenomenal winning run on the men’s tour came to an end in the semifinals of the 2011 French Open, where his former Swiss colleague finally managed to beat him.
