Alexander Zverev is the sixth seed at this year’s French Open. He enjoyed a comprehensive victory against Austria’s Dennis Novak in the first round to advance further in the tournament. The German is gradually cementing his name among the big guns in the circuit by reaching his first majors final at the 2020 US Open. 

We’ve seen a steady rise in Zverev’s game, and the 23-year-old is certainly a future star in the making. He came agonizingly close to winning his first slam but fell short against Dominic Thiem. However, if you look back at the 2020 ATP calendar, Zverev is right up there as a dominant performer. 

In his post-game presser at Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev was asked about the idea of adding himself in the 2020 ‘Big 3’ along with Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem. Upon receiving the question, Zverev did not laugh at the notion, but instead, calmly took it in and delivered a response. 

“This year when it comes to slam results right, after Novak and after, Dominic,” Zverev asked, before asserting himself as the third-best player in 2020. The German then reminisced on the missed opportunity at the 2020 US Open.  

“I was two points away on multiple occasions in New York. So yeah obviously was very upsetting and obviously was in a way frustrating. But at the same, time I know how close I’ve gotten and you know I had one hand on the trophy. But I do believe that I can win them now,” Zverev said. “So we’ll see how it goes here.”

How confident is Alexander Zverev about succeeding at the 2020 French Open?

Zverev had an easy outing in the first round, and will now face Frenchman Pierre Hugues Herbert in the next. While he has an edge over the 29-year-old in R2, how far can Zverev go in Paris this year?

He is in the same draw as Rafa Nadal and familiar foe Dominic Thiem. The German is not too confident of reigning supreme at Roland Garros due to the extreme weather conditions. 

“Obviously, it’s not going to be the easiest slam for me with how the conditions are and how the preparation was for me. But we’ll see how it goes now in the French Open and the following years to come as well,” Zverev mentioned. 

Destiny is certainly bright for tennis even if the ‘Big 3’ step down from the podium. Zverev is one among the stars expected to shine in the circuit and pick up majors titles in the future.
