The 2020 US Open finalist made light work of his Spanish opponent Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and stormed to a straight-set victory. Zverev has won the last nine of his ten matches on hard court. It wouldn’t be surprising if he wins against 20-year-old Auger-Aliassime as well.

For Felix Auger-Aliassime, this is a chance at defying history. The Montreal native has been playing some great tennis. He caused a major upset in the semis by outshining #2 seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

Auger-Aliassime forced his way to a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, victory to reach his sixth career ATP finals. “In my mind I knew it was going to still be a difficult match, but the way I started playing and with what I had today in me, I just felt like I would get chances at one point during the match,” Felix Auger-Aliassime said after the semi-final.

This will be their third meeting on a tour-level as the remaining two came during the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in France this year. However, Alexander Zverev has a healthy advantage going into this match owing to his record.

Moreover, Felix Auger-Aliassime has a disappointing history of making it to the finals and losing. The youngster has played and lost five finals so far, but can he make it sixth time lucky in Cologne?

All of it will depend on how he gets into the match early on. The Canadian is quick on the court and his serves are a thing to fear. Moreover, Zverev’s main point of control is his service as well. If Auger-Aliassime can outplay Zverev defensively, he has every chance of breaking his finals duck.
